Founder's Story
Born in Colombo, raised in New Orleans, and now living in New York City, I’ve always had a sense of not quite fitting in—until I moved to New York. When I arrived for college and settled into the bagel-and-lox culture of the Upper West Side, I finally felt like I belonged. It wasn’t about a particular reason, just a feeling that this was where I was meant to be.
Growing up, I wasn’t a very active person. It wasn’t until about 10 years ago that I began running in Riverside Park. That routine eventually gave me the courage to join a gym, where I met my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time). Even then, fitness felt unfamiliar, and I wasn’t quite sure how to navigate it—especially when it came to what to wear.
I’d see people wearing the sleek, beautiful activewear from brands like Lululemon or Fabletics, but I just couldn’t picture myself in those clothes. Instead, I’d make trips to Modell’s or Walmart when I visited my parents, where I’d pick up boys’ large t-shirts for my workouts. The fit was strange, but they were loose enough for me to feel comfortable. Still, I felt like there was something missing—an option that blended comfort with a sense of personal style.
That’s when the idea for Island of Many Hills was born. I wanted to create a brand that provided clothing you’d feel great wearing, whether you’re hitting the gym or grabbing drinks at a bar afterward. It needed to be cool, functional, and versatile—something that would make people feel confident without compromising on comfort.
I’m kicking off this journey with a boxing-themed collection, inspired by my own love for boxing. It’s a sport I recently took up, and it’s been an empowering part of my fitness journey. But this is just the beginning—soon to follow will be collections inspired by other sports that I love, like tennis, soccer, and many more.
Island of Many Hills is for those of us who’ve faced our own "hills" in life. It’s a reminder that no matter where you come from or how many times you’ve had to adapt, you can find your place and create something meaningful. Whether you’re in the gym, out running, or just living your life, we’ve got you covered.
